On 1 December a massive Rally was held at Basavakalyan on the occasion of World AIDS day. As the world celebrated the World AIDS day, ORBIT together with the SHG women, students from different schools and colleges, politicians, heads of different institutions, religious leaders, priests and sisters from different centers.
The program was kicked off at around 10:30 AM in front of the Police Station, Gandhi Chowk. Mr. Sharanappa Mudubi (Taluka Health Officer) cut the ribbon and inaugurated the rally. The rally was held from Gandhi Chowk upto the Government hospital, Basavakalyan. At Ambedkar Chowk the students from Nilambika School performed a street play depicting the importance of Education and the right response of society towards HIV infected members. The rally was concluded at the government hospital. Fr. S. Bapu spoke on the occasion and highlighted the need for a change of heart from the society in dealing with the infected members. Dr. Bulule explained in medical terms about AIDS/HIV and the need for attitudinal change. In the meantime the Tahasildar of Basavakalyan arrived and a Memorandum was submitted to him explaining the needs of the infected in the society and a greater commitment from the part of the government. There were a total of more than 900 people attending the rally. All were given snacks and water at the end of program. In other words it was a march for a noble cause, meaningfully walked.
